School Overview

The Academy of Arts & Minds Charter High School is a public performing arts school where students excel as artists and scholars, in the midst of a vibrant campus setting in the heart of Coconut Grove. By exploring and refining their artistic skills within the context of a rigorous academic curriculum, A&M 'Stars' rise to the top with a well-rounded and harmoniously balanced liberal arts education.

In a small private school setting of 500 students, A&M's tuition-free program connects students with the art world for a comprehensive artistic experience designed to build character and open the gates to self-awareness, imagination, intelligence, creativity and fantasy.

With a focus on the arts, A&M's main mission is to prepare students for admission to college through a rigorous academic program. Students are taught to perform at a high academic level on their own initiative and, whenever needed, with assistance from the school's faculty and staff. Participation in advanced placement and/or dual enrollment courses in all arts and academic courses is always encouraged.

This Renaissance-based philosophy and the small size of the student body have yielded outstanding results in academic performance and in the development of artistic skills. Students get to learn what lies at the core of their true passions and to understand what drives their basic instincts, as they expand their knowledge on their journey from adolescense to adulthood.

There is no arts program like A&M in Miami-Dade County. Art magnet programs in local public schools lock a student into one artistic discipline at an early age and restrict their ability to explore other forms of artistic expression. A&M, on the other hand, gives students the flexibility to pursue, at their option, different areas of interest in the arts, allowing for exploration and development of more than one artistic skill. There is no other educational program like this in South Florida.

A&M's methodology is based on the premise that a true artist must be academically solid and well-versed in a variety of artistic disciplines, while refined in his or her own primary art. Therefore, cross-training in the arts is highly recommended, exploration of more than one artistic discipline is encouraged and changes in artistic preference from year to year are never limited.

A&M's educational program allows students to explore all the arts and to clearly define the ones that ring most true. It also motivates the student to own his/her artistic educational endeavor within the framework of a solid and demanding academic curriculum. Students are allowed to express themselves with their personal artistic talent but encouraged to explore all the art disciplines to develop an inclusive appreciation for the arts in the context of their talent. Participation in professional artistic activities are also highly encouraged and community service is required.

A&M has a highly ranked academic curriculum; a unique artistic program; a student population that mirrors the ethnic diversity of Miami-Dade County and a small school campus, with a population of 125 students per grade. The faculty and staff are immersed in a culture that is rooted in the student's individual attention from the academic, artistic and social perspective so that the high school experience at the Academy of Arts & Minds Charter High School is exceptional and rewarding.
